CT State law allows an individual to be seen 6 times in a month without a physician’s referral. If no progress is being made, they are then referred back to their MD. What is your new patient procedure?
The first visit I will take a complete history, asking questions such as:
-
What brought on your problem
-
When did it start
-
What tests have you had run
-
What other treatment have you had
-
Have you had any prior injuries to this area
-
As well as other medical questions that I feel are important that might contribute to your pain/problem
After completing the history an evaluation is performed which consists of:
-
Postural assessment
-
Range of Motion measurements
-
Strength measurements
-
Sensation testing/Reflex Testing
-
Once completed I will discuss with you what the findings suggest as a cause of your pain and how we will address the problem
The key word in that sentence is WE! Even with 40 years of experience, a Physical Therapist is only as good as the patient following my suggestions. We work as a TEAM to get you better!
IF time allows, I will do some manual therapy interventions (hands on techniques) and instruct you in exercises meant to help resolve your pain.
At your next session we will discuss how you responded and continue to adjust treatment accordingly.
